Sweet Stevia
Have you heard of Stevia? Though it is sometimes confused with artificial sweeteners, Stevia is not an artificial sweetener. It’s from a plant and is about 200-300 times sweeter than table sugar and has zero calories. Try replacing sugar in beverages with Stevia. TIP: When you do use Stevia, start with a small amount and then add more as needed. If you use the liquid Stevia, one small drop can go a long way so be mindful of the amount.
Cutting Calories?
If you are being mindful of calories and fat grams one quick tip is to try cooking without adding oil. Each tablespoon of oil, regardless which kind it is, has about 14 grams of fat. One tablespoon of oil contains 120-125 calories. Tip: Try using water or low sodium vegetable, in place of oil, when cooking vegetables.
Aqua…..what?
Aquafaba. It’s the liquid from chickpeas. Also known as garbanzo beans, chickpeas are legumes that are very nutrient dense. Rich in protein and fiber, they are great to add to salads or to use when making hummus. If you open a can of chickpeas, make sure to keep the liquid though. It can be used as a binding agent, to replace an egg, when baking. Approximately three tablespoons of chickpea liquid (aquafaba) replaces one egg. Try it the next time you are baking those healthy muffins!
